Ingredients
Scale
Truffle Base
- 200 grams white chocolate
- 100 grams cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 teaspoon orange extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- Pinch of salt
Optional Decoration
- Orange sanding sugar
- Melted white chocolate
Instructions
- Melt the white chocolate: Chop the white chocolate into small pieces and gently melt it using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently to ensure it melts evenly and does not burn.
- Prepare the cream cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, orange zest, orange extract, vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes smooth, creamy, and fluffy.
- Combine chocolate and cream cheese: Allow the melted white chocolate to cool slightly so it doesn’t curdle the cream cheese. Then stir the melted chocolate into the cream cheese mixture until fully incorporated and homogenous.
- Chill the mixture: Place the truffle mixture in the refrigerator and chill for 1 hour or until it firms up enough to handle and roll.
- Form truffle balls: Using your hands or a cookie scoop, scoop small amounts of the firm mixture and roll them into bite-sized balls evenly.
- Decorate the truffles: Optional step – dip the truffles in additional melted white chocolate or roll them in orange sanding sugar for a festive decorative finish.
- Final chilling: Chill the decorated truffles again for 30 minutes to set and firm up before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened for easier mixing and a smoother texture.
- Use fresh orange zest for the best citrus flavor and aroma.
- If melting chocolate in a microwave, use short 15-20 second bursts to avoid overheating.
- Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese with a vegan cream cheese alternative and use dairy-free white chocolate.
