Description

Shrimp Cocktail Shooters are an elegant appetizer featuring jumbo shrimp served in small glasses with a zesty homemade cocktail sauce, fresh cucumber slices, and garnished with dill. Perfect for entertaining, these shooters are quick to assemble and make a visually appealing starter for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Garnishes

  • 12 extra jumbo shrimp (frozen or fresh), thawed if frozen
  • 1/2 of an English seedless cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 12 small sprigs of fresh dill
  • Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)
  • Old Bay seasoning + water or lemon juice (optional – for rimming glasses)

Cocktail Sauce

  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish (plus more to taste)
  • Old Bay seasoning, to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cocktail Sauce: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix together the ketchup, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and optional Old Bay seasoning. Set the sauce aside to let the flavors meld.
  2. Prep the Shrimp: If using frozen shrimp, thaw them by placing them in cold water for 10-15 minutes, then pat dry with paper towels. If using fresh shrimp, peel and devein them carefully.
  3. Assemble Shooters: Divide the shrimp evenly among small serving glasses or shot glasses. Add a few thin slices of cucumber to each glass alongside the shrimp for a fresh crunch.
  4. Add Cocktail Sauce: Spoon the prepared cocktail sauce generously over the shrimp and cucumber in each glass, ensuring good coverage and flavor.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Top each shooter with a small sprig of fresh dill. If desired, rim the glass edges with a mixture of Old Bay seasoning and a little water or lemon juice before pouring the sauce. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side for extra zest.

Notes

  • Thaw frozen shrimp in cold water for about 10-15 minutes for best texture.
  • Peeling and deveining fresh shrimp enhances presentation and eating experience.
  • Old Bay seasoning can be added to the cocktail sauce or used to rim the glasses for extra flavor.
  • Use shot glasses or small glassware for easy serving and visual appeal.
  • Chill the shrimp and sauce before assembling for a refreshing appetizer.
  • Adjust horseradish quantity to taste for desired heat level.
