- 1 can (14 oz / 396 g) Sweetened condensed milk (can use coconut or sugar-free version)
- 4 tbsp Butter, softened (or coconut oil / vegan butter)
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract (almond or peppermint extract optional)
Dry Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Unsweetened cocoa powder (more for richer chocolate flavor)
- 1 pinch Salt (enhances chocolate flavor)
- 1 ½ cups Shredded coconut (unsweetened or sweetened)
- 1 cup Graham cracker crumbs (or digestive biscuit / wafer crumbs)
- 1 tsp Instant coffee powder (for mocha flavor)
- 1 tbsp Orange zest (adds brightness)
- ¼ cup Mini chocolate chips (for extra texture)
- ¼ cup Chopped nuts (adds crunch)
For Coating
- ½ cup Shredded coconut
- 2 tbsp Cocoa powder (optional alternative coating)
- 2 tbsp Powdered sugar (optional for sweeter finish)
Instructions
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Stir the mixture thoroughly until it becomes smooth and creamy, ensuring all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Add the unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, shredded coconut, graham cracker crumbs, instant coffee powder, orange zest, mini chocolate chips, and chopped nuts to the wet mixture. Mix everything evenly until the dough holds together firmly when pressed.
- Chill the Dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Chill for about 30 minutes until the mixture is firm enough to handle for shaping.
- Shape and Coat: Using a tablespoon, scoop out portions of the chilled dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in shredded coconut or alternatively in cocoa powder and powdered sugar if desired. Press lightly to help the coating adhere well.
- Set and Store: Place the coated balls on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow them to set properly. Once set, store the Moose Farts in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or freeze them for up to 3 months for longer storage.
Notes
- You can substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter to make this recipe dairy-free.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, add extra cocoa powder to the dough or use the optional cocoa powder coating.
- Instant coffee powder enhances the mocha flavor but can be omitted for a pure chocolate taste.
- Orange zest adds a fresh and bright note but can be skipped if unavailable.
- Store the treats well covered to maintain freshness and prevent drying out.
- Freeze leftovers in a sealed container to enjoy later without compromising texture or taste.
