Description

A delicious and nutritious Black Forest-inspired overnight oats recipe featuring layers of cocoa-infused oats and fresh cherries. Perfect for a quick and satisfying breakfast that requires no cooking and is easily customizable with dairy or non-dairy milk and sweeteners.

Ingredients

Scale

Oats Mixture

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)

Fruit Layer

  • 1/4 cup cherries, chopped (fresh or thawed frozen)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a jar or bowl, mix the rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, unsweetened cocoa powder, and honey until smooth and well combined.
  2. Layer Oats: Spoon half of the oat mixture into a jar or container to create the first layer.
  3. Add Cherries: Add a layer of chopped cherries evenly over the oat mixture to create a fruit layer.
  4. Top with Remaining Oats: Spoon the remaining oat mixture on top of the cherries to complete the layering.
  5. Refrigerate Overnight: Cover the jar or container and refrigerate overnight or for at least 6 hours to allow the oats to soak and flavors to meld.
  6. Serve: In the morning, gently stir the oats or enjoy as-is. Optionally, top with extra cherries or chocolate chips for additional flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can use any type of milk such as almond, soy, or regular cow’s milk based on preference.
  • Maple syrup is a great vegan alternative to honey.
  • Fresh or frozen cherries work well; if using frozen, thaw before adding.
  • For added crunch, sprinkle nuts or granola on top before serving.
  • Prepare multiple jars ahead of time for convenient grab-and-go breakfasts.
