Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef Patties
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 6 slices American cheese
For the Special Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons French dressing
- 1 tablespoon sweet relish
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Other Ingredients
- 3 sesame seed buns (sliced into top, middle, and bottom parts)
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1/2 cup sliced pickles
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, white vinegar, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly until smooth and fully incorporated. Set aside to allow flavors to meld.
- Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef into six equal portions. Shape each into thin, round patties slightly larger than the buns to account for shrinkage during cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Toast the Buns: Using a dry skillet or the oven, lightly toast the top, middle, and bottom parts of the sesame seed buns until golden and slightly crispy. This step helps keep the buns from becoming soggy when assembled with sauce.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they reach your preferred doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to melt.
- Assemble the Big Mac: Start by spreading special sauce on the bottom bun. Add a layer of shredded lettuce, sliced pickles, and finely chopped onions. Place the first beef patty with melted cheese on top. Next, add the middle bun slice. Repeat the layering by spreading more special sauce, lettuce, pickles, onions, and the second cheese-topped beef patty. Finish by topping with the sesame seed top bun.
- Serve: Carefully slice the assembled Big Mac in half to showcase the layers. Serve immediately with your favorite fries or chips for an authentic fast food experience right at home.
Notes
- For juicier burgers, avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking.
- Adjust the amount of special sauce to suit your taste preference.
- Use freshly shredded iceberg lettuce for optimal crunch and flavor.
- Toasting the buns prevents sogginess from the sauces and adds texture.
- Feel free to add extra pickles or onions for more tang and bite.
