Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Cheese & Herb Add-ins
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
- 1 tsp dried rosemary or oregano (optional)
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F) and sugar, then sprinkle active dry yeast over the surface. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy and bubbly, indicating the yeast is active.
- Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir together for 3-5 minutes just until ingredients begin to come together into a dough.
- Knead Dough and Add Cheese & Herbs: Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. During kneading, fold in the shredded cheese and dried rosemary or oregano evenly throughout the dough.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Shape and Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). After rising, punch down the dough and shape into a round or loaf form as desired. Place on a baking sheet or loaf pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Notes
- Ensure the water temperature is around 110°F to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
- You can substitute the cheddar or mozzarella cheese with Parmesan for a stronger garlic Parmesan flavor.
- Optional herbs can be adjusted or omitted based on preference.
- Let the bread cool slightly before slicing to preserve its texture.
