Ingredients
Scale
Ramen Noodles
- 2 packs instant ramen noodles (discard seasoning packets)
Sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (or hoisin sauce for vegetarian option)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes or chili oil (optional)
- 1/4 cup water (reserved from boiling noodles)
Garnish
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook Noodles: Prepare the instant ramen noodles according to the package instructions, but be sure to discard the seasoning packets. Reserve about 1/4 cup of the water used to boil the noodles before draining. Set the cooked noodles aside.
- Prepare Sauce: Heat a skillet or wok over medium heat and add the sesame oil. Sauté the minced garlic for 30 to 60 seconds until it becomes fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Combine Sauce Ingredients: Add soy sauce, oyster (or hoisin) sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and optional chili flakes or chili oil into the skillet. Stir the mixture well to combine all flavors.
- Simmer Sauce: Pour in the reserved 1/4 cup noodle cooking water and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to slightly thicken.
- Toss Noodles in Sauce: Add the cooked noodles back to the skillet and toss them thoroughly in the sauce to ensure every strand is coated. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes to heat everything through and develop a saucy consistency.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, then serve immediately while hot for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a heartier meal, add sautéed vegetables, scrambled eggs, or leftover chicken to the dish.
- Doubling the sauce ingredients will make the noodles extra saucy and flavorful.
