Description

Dollywood Cinnamon Bread is a delightful, sweet pull-apart bread featuring cinnamon-sugar layers and a luscious powdered sugar icing. Made from simple frozen bread dough, it’s an easy bake that yields warm, gooey slices perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cinnamon Bread

  • 1 lb. Frozen Bread Dough, thawed
  • 1 Tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar (for sprinkling on top)
  • 4 Tbsp Unsalted Butter, melted

For the Icing

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 – 3 Tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan for Baking: Lightly spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the bread.
  2. Thaw the Dough: Place the frozen bread dough in the prepared loaf pan and allow it to thaw for 4 to 7 hours at room temperature until fully softened and slightly risen.
  3. Mix Sugar and Cinnamon: In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon to create the cinnamon-sugar mixture that flavors the bread.
  4. Cut the Dough: Using a knife, make 5 to 6 horizontal slits across the top of the thawed dough to allow the cinnamon sugar to seep in and to facilitate pulling apart after baking.
  5. Coat in Butter and Cinnamon Sugar: Brush the melted unsalted butter over the top and inside the slits of the dough, then generously sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture all over the surface.
  6. Top and Rise: Let the dough rise in the pan for 30 minutes at room temperature to develop volume, then sprinkle 1/4 cup brown sugar evenly on top for added sweetness and a slight crunch.
  7. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bread to golden perfection.
  8. Bake: Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Prepare the Icing: While the bread bakes, whisk together powdered sugar and 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk until smooth and pourable to create the sweet glaze.
  10. Finish and Serve: Once out of the oven, drizzle the warm bread with the prepared icing. Pull apart individual slices and enjoy while warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Allow the dough to thaw completely to ensure even rising and baking.
  • The horizontal slits help the cinnamon sugar flavor penetrate and make it easy to pull apart the bread.
  • You can adjust the amount of milk in the icing to achieve your preferred consistency.
  • Serve the bread warm for a soft, gooey texture that is perfect with coffee or tea.
