Ingredients
Scale
Cheese and Wraps
- 250g halloumi cheese, sliced
- 4 soft tortilla wraps or flatbreads
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Vegetables
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small cucumber, sliced into thin ribbons
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- A handful of lettuce leaves
Garlic Yogurt Sauce
- 4 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Additional Toppings
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- Fresh mint leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the garlic yogurt sauce: In a small bowl, combine the plain Greek yogurt with minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Fry the halloumi: Heat olive oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Add the halloumi slices and fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they become golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and keep warm.
- Warm the wraps: Gently warm the tortilla wraps or flatbreads in a dry pan or microwave until they are soft and pliable, which makes them easier to fold.
- Assemble the wraps: Spread a spoonful of the prepared garlic yogurt sauce evenly over each warmed wrap. Layer with lettuce leaves, slices of tomato, cucumber ribbons, red onion, and the crispy halloumi slices on top.
- Add finishing touches: Drizzle each wrap with sweet chili sauce to add a hint of sweetness and spice. If desired, sprinkle fresh mint leaves for a refreshing aroma and flavor.
- Serve: Fold the wraps securely and serve immediately to enjoy the halloumi while it is hot and crispy.
Notes
- You can substitute the tortilla wraps with pita bread for a different texture.
- To make it vegan, replace halloumi with grilled tofu and use a dairy-free yogurt alternative.
- Adjust the amount of sweet chili sauce to your spice preference.
- Serve with a side salad or crispy fries to make it a fuller meal.
- Use fresh herbs like coriander or basil instead of mint for a variation in flavor.
