Description

Deliciously crispy Potato Cheese Sticks made with creamy mashed potatoes and melted mozzarella cheese, seasoned with garlic and onion powder, and perfectly fried to golden perfection. These savory snacks are coated in a double layer of breadcrumbs for extra crunch and served hot, making them an irresistible appetizer or party treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Potato Cheese Mixture

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Breading

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Frying

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix Potato and Cheese: In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, shredded mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and chopped parsley. Mix thoroughly until smooth and well incorporated.
  2. Form Sticks and Freeze: Roll the potato mixture into 3-inch long sticks and place them evenly spaced on a tray lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 30–45 minutes to firm up.
  3. Prepare Breading Station: Set up three shallow bowls—one with flour, one with the beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with paprika.
  4. Bread the Sticks: Dip each frozen stick first into the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and then into the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb dipping for a second coat to ensure a crispy crust.
  5. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C), ensuring there’s enough oil for deep frying.
  6. Fry the Sticks: Fry 3–4 sticks at a time in the hot oil until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes. Avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking.
  7. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried sticks with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing the sticks before breading helps them hold shape during frying.
  • Double coating with egg and breadcrumbs creates an extra crispy crust.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste; you can add chili powder or herbs for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately for the best crispy texture.
  • Use fresh oil or strain used oil to avoid off-flavors during frying.
