Description
Crispy Air Fryer Apple Fries are a delightful and healthy snack made by coating fresh apple wedges in a cinnamon-sugar panko breadcrumb mixture and air frying them to golden perfection. These apple fries are perfectly crispy on the outside while tender and sweet on the inside, making a delicious treat that’s easy to prepare and great for dipping in caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt.
Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), peeled and cut into fry-shaped wedges
Coating
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Additional
- Nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) and allow it to reach the temperature before starting the coating process.
- Prepare the dredging station: Arrange three shallow bowls; fill one with the flour, the second with beaten eggs, and the third with a mixture of panko breadcrumbs, ground cinnamon, and granulated sugar.
- Coat the apple wedges: Dip each apple fry first into the flour to coat evenly, then into the beaten eggs, and finally press it gently into the panko mixture ensuring an even coating that adheres well.
- Prepare the air fryer basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Air fry the apple fries: Place the coated apple fries in a single layer inside the basket, making sure the fries do not overlap. Lightly spray the top of the fries with nonstick cooking spray. Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through the cooking time, until they are golden brown and crispy. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Serve: Once cooked, serve the apple fries warm with your choice of dipping sauce like caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt.
Notes
- For extra crunch, toast the panko breadcrumbs in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until golden before coating the apples.
- Try different apple varieties to explore varied flavor profiles, such as Granny Smith for tartness or Gala for sweetness.
- Best enjoyed fresh and crispy right out of the air fryer.
