Description

Delicious creamy garlic shrimp served over rich and fluffy mashed potatoes. This comforting dish combines succulent sautéed shrimp in a savory garlic cream sauce with perfectly mashed Yukon gold or russet potatoes, making it a perfect weeknight dinner or special occasion meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp & Sauce

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: splash of white wine
  • Optional: chili flakes

Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs Yukon gold or russet potatoes, peeled & chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk or cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: sour cream or cream cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook potatoes: Boil the peeled and chopped potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well, then mash with butter, milk or cream, and salt to taste. For extra creaminess, optionally mix in sour cream or cream cheese. Set aside.
  2. Cook shrimp: Heat butter or olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp and sear until pink and opaque, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make sauce: In the same skillet, sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute, taking care not to burn it. Add a splash of white wine if using, and let it reduce slightly. Pour in the heavy cream, then stir in grated parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and optional chili flakes. Simmer gently until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Assemble: Spoon the mashed potatoes onto serving plates. Top with the cooked shrimp and drizzle generously with the creamy garlic sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley and lemon zest if desired. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor, but frozen shrimp can also work if thawed properly.
  • Adjust cream and butter amounts in mashed potatoes for your preferred consistency and richness.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or a lower-fat cream alternative.
  • The optional white wine enhances flavor but can be omitted or replaced with chicken broth.
  • Adding chili flakes provides a subtle heat; adjust to your taste.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs and lemon zest brightens the dish beautifully.
