Description
Christmas Cornflake Wreaths are easy and festive no-bake treats perfect for the holiday season. These colorful green wreath-shaped snacks are made from marshmallows, butter, and cornflakes, decorated with red candies to mimic holly berries. A fun and kid-friendly recipe that can be prepared quickly on the stovetop.
Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows (about 6 cups)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Green food coloring (about 1/2 teaspoon or to desired shade)
Dry Ingredients
- 5 cups cornflake cereal
Decoration
- Red cinnamon candies or red mini M&Ms (for “berries”)
- Cooking spray or butter (for hands)
Instructions
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until they are completely melted and smooth.
- Add Flavor and Color: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and green food coloring until the mixture is evenly tinted a festive green color.
- Mix in Cornflakes: Gently fold in the cornflake cereal, stirring until all the cornflakes are evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Prepare for Shaping: Let the mixture cool slightly until it is safe to handle but still moldable. Spray your hands with cooking spray or lightly butter them to prevent sticking.
- Shape Wreaths: Scoop out a handful of the mixture and form it into a wreath shape, pressing a hole in the center with your fingers or a spoon handle. Place each formed wreath onto parchment or wax paper.
- Decorate: Adorn each wreath with 3–5 red cinnamon candies or mini M&Ms to create a festive holly berry look.
- Set and Serve: Let the wreaths set for about 30 minutes at room temperature until firm before serving.
Notes
- Work quickly when forming the wreaths as the mixture can harden and become difficult to shape; if this happens, gently warm it again.
- You can also shape the mixture into small trees or festive balls instead of wreaths for variety.
- To prevent sticking, always grease your hands well with butter or cooking spray before shaping.
- These treats are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
