Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the package)
Filling and Topping
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter, melted
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
- 1/2 cup peanut butter, melted
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare and bake the cake. Follow the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box to prepare the batter. Pour it into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool slightly.
- Poke the cake. Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a similar tool, poke holes all over the surface of the warm cake, about 1 inch apart. This allows the filling to soak in and keep the cake moist and flavorful.
- Add the filling. In a small bowl, mix together the melted peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk. Pour this mixture evenly over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes.
- Chill the cake. Place the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 to 2 hours to let the filling set and the flavors meld together.
- Prepare the topping. In a medium bowl, combine the whipped topping with the remaining melted peanut butter and powdered sugar. Mix until smooth and evenly blended.
- Top the cake. Spread the peanut butter whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
- Garnish and serve. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings on top if desired. Cut into 12 servings and enjoy.
Notes
- For best results, allow the cake to cool slightly before poking and adding the filling to prevent it from becoming too soggy.
- You can substitute natural peanut butter but it may alter the texture slightly.
- Keep the cake refrigerated if not serving immediately to maintain freshness.
- The poke holes should be evenly spaced to ensure even distribution of the filling throughout the cake.
