Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sauce & Topping
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the meatball mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, chopped parsley, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Shape the meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs approximately 1 inch in diameter, ensuring they are evenly sized for uniform cooking.
- Cook the meatballs on stovetop: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of oil if desired. Place the meatballs in the skillet and cook them, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
- Add sauce and cheese: Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the cooked meatballs in the skillet. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously on top of the meatballs and sauce.
- Bake to finish: Transfer the skillet or move the meatballs with sauce and cheese into an oven-safe dish if needed. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until the mozzarella cheese has melted completely and is bubbly, and the sauce is heated through.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh parsley and garlic to enhance flavor.
- Breadcrumbs can be substituted with gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
- Make sure meatballs are cooked through in the skillet before baking to ensure food safety.
- You can prepare the meatballs in advance and refrigerate before cooking for convenience.
- Serve with pasta, garlic bread, or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
