Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Wrapper
- 1 package egg roll wrappers
- Water, for sealing edges
For frying
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended, amount as needed)
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: In a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the diced onions and minced garlic, sautéing for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and slightly softened.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook it, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Season the Filling: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well to combine the flavors evenly.
- Add Cheese and Cool: Remove the skillet from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly, then fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- Prepare Egg Roll Wrappers: Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Moisten the edges with water to help seal. Place a spoonful of the cheeseburger filling in the center of the wrapper, fold in the corners over the filling, and roll tightly to form a twist shape.
- Fry the Twists: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the egg roll twists for 2–3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the twists from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, make sure the oil is hot enough before frying (around 350°F or 175°C).
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef for a lighter option.
- Use your favorite brand of egg roll wrappers, found in the refrigerated section of many grocery stores.
- These twists are best served fresh but can be reheated in an air fryer or oven to retain crispiness.
- Be careful not to overfill the wrappers to prevent tearing during frying.
