Description

A delicious and easy Caprese Garlic Bread recipe featuring toasted ciabatta topped with garlic butter, melted mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, basil, and a tangy balsamic reduction. Perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Toppings

  • 1 loaf ciabatta bread, horizontally cut in half
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 oz. fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh basil

Balsamic Reduction

  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place both halves of the ciabatta bread cut side up on a large baking sheet to prepare for toasting.
  2. Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the salted butter and minced garlic thoroughly, ensuring the garlic is evenly distributed throughout the butter.
  3. Spread Garlic Butter: Evenly spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the ciabatta halves, covering the entire surface for maximum flavor.
  4. Add Mozzarella and Bake: Layer the fresh mozzarella slices evenly over the buttered bread halves. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese melts and starts to bubble slightly.
  5. Make Balsamic Reduction: While the bread bakes, pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the vinegar is reduced by half, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  6. Assemble Caprese Bread: Once baked, remove the bread from the oven. Top the melted mozzarella with sliced tomatoes, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and sprinkle the chopped fresh basil evenly over the top.
  7. Finish and Serve: Drizzle the prepared balsamic reduction over the assembled bread. Cut into 8 slices and serve warm for a delightful appetizer or side.

Notes

  • For a crispier base, you can toast the ciabatta halves for a couple of minutes before adding the garlic butter.
  • Balsamic reduction can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks and used on salads or other dishes.
  • Fresh mozzarella is preferred for best melty texture and flavor.
  • Adjust garlic quantity according to taste preferences.
