Description

This buttery brown sugar glazed carrots recipe offers a perfect balance of sweetness and savory flavors, making it an ideal side dish for any meal. Tender carrots are cooked on the stovetop until just soft, then coated with a glossy glaze made from brown sugar and butter, accented with a touch of salt and pepper.

Ingredients

Scale

Carrots

  • 1 pound carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rounds

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup water

Garnish

  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Carrots: In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the sliced carrots and water. Cover the skillet and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the carrots are just tender.
  2. Evaporate Water: Remove the lid and continue cooking to let any remaining water evaporate completely from the pan.
  3. Add Glaze Ingredients: Add the butter, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to coat all the carrots evenly with the glaze.
  4. Thicken the Glaze: Cook for another 4–5 minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the glaze thickens and the carrots are glossy and tender.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and, if desired, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley. Serve the glazed carrots warm as a delicious side dish.

Notes

  • For extra depth of flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of maple syrup along with the glaze ingredients.
  • Baby carrots can be substituted for sliced carrots; just adjust the cooking time slightly as needed.
