Ingredients
Scale
Fruit
- 1 cup strawberries, halved
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup green grapes
- 1 cup red grapes
- 1 cup pineapple chunks
- 1 cup cantaloupe or melon balls
- 1 cup kiwi slices
- 1 banana, sliced
- 1 small apple, sliced
Other
- 1 small container vanilla or fruit yogurt (for dipping, optional)
- Pretzel sticks or celery sticks (for butterfly body)
- Blackberries or blueberries (for antenna tips)
- Lemon juice (to prevent browning)
Instructions
- Prepare the fruit. Wash and dry all fruit thoroughly. Slice the banana and apple just before assembling to ensure freshness, then toss the slices with a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Create the upper wings. On a large platter or tray, arrange strawberries, pineapple chunks, and blueberries in a graceful arc on each side to form the butterfly’s upper wings.
- Form the lower wings. Arrange kiwi slices, melon balls, and grapes in a smaller arc beneath each upper wing, completing the butterfly’s lower wings.
- Build the butterfly’s body. Place a vertical row of banana or apple slices down the center of the tray to represent the butterfly’s body. Alternatively, use pretzel sticks or celery sticks for a crunchy texture.
- Add antennae details. Position blackberries or blueberries atop two pretzel sticks or thin apple slices set above the butterfly’s body to create antennae.
- Serve with dipping option. Add a small bowl of vanilla or fruit yogurt to the side or center of the tray as an optional dip. Serve the platter immediately, or cover and refrigerate until ready to enjoy.
Notes
- Feel free to substitute or add other fruits such as mango, raspberries, or oranges based on availability and preference.
- This platter is great for parties, holidays, or springtime events and is especially fun for kids.
- To keep fruit fresh longer, toss cut fruit with lemon juice just before arranging.
- If serving later, cover the tray tightly and chill to maintain freshness.
