Description

A rich and flavorful Blackened Steak and Shrimp Alfredo that combines perfectly seasoned and seared shrimp and steak over creamy parmesan penne pasta. This dish is an indulgent dinner option that balances bold blackened spices with a smooth, cheesy Alfredo sauce, garnished with fresh parsley.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood and Meat

  • 1 pound large shrimp, raw, deveined, tail removed
  • 1 pound top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes

Pasta

  • 8 ounces penne pasta

Seasonings and Oils

  • 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning (for shrimp)
  • 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning (for steak)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Sauce

  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 57 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about ½ cup)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (476 g) heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups (200 g) parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Garnish

  • Parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Reserve some pasta water before draining, then set pasta aside.
  2. Season and Sauté Shrimp: Toss the shrimp with 1 teaspoon of blackened seasoning. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the shrimp until they turn opaque and are cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove shrimp from skillet and set aside.
  3. Season and Sear Steak: Coat the steak cubes with 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning. In the same skillet, sear the steak pieces over medium-high heat until browned on all sides and cooked to preferred doneness, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside with the shrimp.
  4. Prepare Alfredo Sauce: In the same skillet, melt unsalted butter. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until onions are translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in heavy whipping cream and a splash of reserved pasta water. Allow the mixture to simmer and thicken slightly. Gradually whisk in freshly grated parmesan cheese until smooth. Season the sauce with kosher salt, black pepper, and additional blackened seasoning if desired.
  5. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the Alfredo sauce. Mix gently so the pasta absorbs the sauce fully.
  6. Serve: Plate the creamy Alfredo pasta and top with the blackened shrimp and seared steak cubes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and added freshness. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • To enhance the blackened flavor, you can add an extra pinch of blackened seasoning to the sauce.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little more reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
  • Use freshly grated parmesan for best melting quality and flavor.
  • Ensure shrimp and steak are not overcooked to maintain tenderness.
  • Penne pasta works well for capturing the creamy sauce; rigatoni or fettuccine are good substitutes.
