Description

A delightful Berry Croissant Bake featuring flaky croissants soaked in a creamy cinnamon-vanilla custard, layered with mixed berries, and baked to golden perfection. This comforting dish serves as a perfect sweet brunch or dessert option, combining the richness of croissants with the freshness of berries and a touch of maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale

Croissant and Berries

  • 3 large croissants, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Custard Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Finishing

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Maple syrup, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Layer croissants and berries: Place the 1-inch croissant pieces evenly into the prepared dish and sprinkle the mixed berries evenly over them to distribute the fruit throughout the bake.
  3. Mix custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine custard with croissants: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and berries in the baking dish. Press down gently to make sure all croissant pieces absorb the custard.
  5. Bake: Bake the mixture in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the custard is set, the top is lightly golden, and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the berry croissant bake cool slightly. Before serving, dust with powdered sugar and optionally drizzle with maple syrup for added sweetness. Enjoy warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute the mixed berries with your favorite fruits such as cherries or peaches.
  • Allowing the croissant pieces to soak in the custard for 10-15 minutes before baking can enhance flavor absorption.
  • Serving with fresh whipped cream can add extra indulgence.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
