Description

These Bacon Wrapped Smokies are a perfect combination of smoky, sweet, and spicy flavors. Bite-sized little smokies are wrapped in crispy bacon and coated with a delicious brown sugar and spice mixture, then baked to perfection. Ideal as a party appetizer or a savory snack, they offer a crispy exterior with a juicy, flavorful center.

Ingredients

Scale

Meats

  • 1 lb sliced bacon (cut into thirds)
  • 1 lb little smokies

Seasonings

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • â…› teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Tray: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a large rimmed baking tray with aluminum foil and lightly coat it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Seasoning Mix: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cayenne pepper, paprika, and black pepper. Stir well to create a spicy-sweet seasoning blend and set it aside.
  3. Wrap the Smokies: Take one piece of bacon and wrap it around a single little smokie sausage. Secure the bacon with a toothpick to hold it tightly. Place the wrapped smokies on the prepared baking tray. Repeat with all remaining smokies and bacon pieces.
  4. Apply Seasoning First Half: Sprinkle half of the brown sugar and spice mixture evenly over the bacon-wrapped smokies on the tray to coat them.
  5. Bake and Flip: Place the tray in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. After baking, carefully flip each bacon-wrapped smokie over so the other side can crisp up evenly.
  6. Apply Seasoning Second Half and Finish Baking: Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar mixture over the flipped smokies. Return the tray to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes or until the bacon is crispy and golden brown.

Notes

  • Use toothpicks to help secure the bacon tightly around the smokies for even cooking.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper to control the spiciness to your liking.
  • Allow the cooked smokies to cool slightly before serving to allow the bacon to set crisply.
  • Line the baking tray with foil for easy cleanup.
  • These can be kept warm in a low oven before serving, but they are best enjoyed fresh.
