Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry sheet, thawed
Filling
- 2 medium Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced thin
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Finish
- 1 large egg, for egg wash
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking. Toss the thinly sliced Granny Smith apples with the brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, ensuring every slice is well coated to infuse sweetness and spice.
- Assembly: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4-inch squares. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture and a sprinkle of shredded sharp cheddar cheese in the center of each square. Fold the corners of the pastry squares inward to seal the filling inside, creating little puff bites.
- Finish: Beat the large egg and brush it gently over the tops of each puff bite. This egg wash will give them a beautiful golden brown color as they bake.
- Bake: Arrange the puff bites on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving to enjoy the perfect blend of savory and sweet.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed before rolling to prevent cracking.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the apple mixture.
- Serve warm for the best texture and taste.
- These can be made ahead and baked just before serving.
