Description
Delightfully crispy and sweet, these Air Fryer Apple Chips flavored with cinnamon sugar are a healthy and easy snack perfect for any time of the day. Thinly sliced apples are air fried to golden perfection, delivering a crunchy treat without any added preservatives or deep frying.
Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 medium apples (any variety, such as Fuji or Granny Smith)
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Using a mandolin slicer or a sharp knife, slice the apples very thinly (about 1/8 inch thick). Remove the core and seeds if desired to ensure uniform and crisp chips.
- Make the cinnamon sugar: In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt if using. Mix well to create an even spice blend for coating.
- Coat the apple slices: Lay the apple slices on a clean surface and lightly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over both sides of the slices, or toss them gently in a bowl with the mixture to coat evenly.
- Preheat the air fryer: Heat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for around 3-5 minutes to ensure it reaches the optimal temperature for crisping the apple slices.
- Air fry the apple chips: Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket without overlapping. Depending on your air fryer size, you may need to cook in batches. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through, until they turn golden brown and crispy. Watch carefully to prevent any burning.
- Cool and serve: Remove the apple chips from the air fryer and allow them to cool for a few minutes on a wire rack or plate. The chips will become crunchier as they cool. Serve immediately for best texture or store in an airtight container for up to a week.
Notes
- For best results, use firm apples like Fuji or Granny Smith to get crispier chips.
- Be sure to slice apples uniformly thin to ensure even cooking.
- Watch the apple chips closely during air frying to prevent burning as cooking times may vary by model.
- You can adjust the cinnamon and sugar ratio according to your preference or use a sugar substitute for a lower-sugar version.
- Store leftover chips in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispness.
